100 BLACK WOMEN WHO HAVE MADE A MARK

We are honoured to be hosting Serendipity‘ inspiring exhibition 100 BLACK WOMEN WHO HAVE MADE A MARK on our Mezzanine from Tue 11 Feb – Sat 31 May.

The exhibition is born out of a deep desire for greater representation of Black women.  Curated by Pawlet Brookes MBE, CEO and Artistic Director of Serendipity Institute for Black Arts and Heritage, the exhibition features 100 portraits of Black British women by five Black female artists based in the UK.

100 BLACK WOMEN WHO HAVE MADE A MARK is not a definitive list, but rather about shining a light on some of the many Black women whose work has made a significant difference.  Selected from over seven hundred nominations, this exhibition is a space of tenacity and perseverance,  joy and celebration.  This is a gallery of role models.  All 100 portraits are available to view in person at Leicester Gallery.  Following this exhibition, digital versions of the portraits will be available to view as part of Serendipity Institute for Black Arts and Heritage’s Living Archive.

Moving from the background into the foreground, unearthing the hidden and making them visible, 100 BLACK WOMEN WHO HAVE MADE A MARK is the start of revealing the huge contribution that Black women have made to all sections of British life.

Come along and check out the exhibition across our Mezzanine from Tue 11 Feb.
