Black History Month Community Day
Join us on Saturday 19th October for our FREE Black History Month Community Day from 12pm – 4pm.
You’ll find an exciting selection of free events and activities taking place across the building, led by local Black artists and practitioners. We have a brilliant line up on our live foyer stage including stunning performances from Marcus Joseph, Delores Joesph, Lady Affirmation and Spoken Word from Boston.
There will be free drama workshops from Joanne Alexander from Can’t Blame Da Youth and dance workshops with Angela O’Neill from Angel Dance Academy, as well as free arts and crafts activities. There’s something for everyone to enjoy – for all ages – bring friends and family to join in the fun and mark Black History Month with us!
Neighbour-Hubs Writers Programme Call Out
This Autumn, Curve is looking for budding local writers who would like an opportunity to receive free mentoring and have an opportunity to showcase their work at the theatre in February 2025.
To be eligible to apply you must:
-Be over 18 years of age at the date of application.
-Currently be living in one of our Neighbour Hub areas: Saffron, New Parks, Evington, Braunstone, Highfields/St Matthews.
-No experience necessary – just an eagerness to tell a story
What successful participants to the programme will receive:
Five playwriting workshops lead by writers and dramaturgs at Curve.
Bursary to cover your travel expenses.
1:1 support from Curve to develop a 10-minute play.
Two ‘script in hand’ performances of your work, with a professional director, actors and a stage team.
How can you apply?
-Come to one of our free writer’s workshop in either your local neighbourhood hub and at Curve or online, to get a flavour of what the programme is all about. (Don’t worry if you can’t make it, it’s not essential)
– Click here to fill in the form and submit a short sample of your writing – either something you have written already or something you have worked on in one of our taster sessions.

The Brite Centre, Wednesday 16th October, 6.30-7.30
Curve Theatre, Thursday 17th October, 7-8pm
Evington Library, 19th October Saturday 11am -12pm
No need to book, just come along!

If you are successful in getting a place on our Neighbour hub writers’ scheme, you will need to be available to attend workshops at Curve Theatre on:
12th November 2024 7-9.30pm
26th November 2024 7-9.30pm
10th December 2024 7-9.30pm
7th January 2025 7-9.30pm
14th January 2025 7-9.30pm
You must be available between 31st Jan 2025 – 6th Feb 2025 for one day to rehearse your play.
You must also be available on Saturday 8th February for the performance.
