Meet the Artist: Simon Sanchez

Meet the Artist running the Saffron Lane project

What is your name?

Simon Sanchez.

Where do you live?

Nottingham.

What can’t you live without?

My wife.

What is your secret obsession?

Supporting Everton. But I don’t think it’s a secret although at times I wish it was.

What are you most looking forward to/excited about the project?

I’m looking forward to engaging with people and hearing their stories, exploring ideas, learning more about the city and sharing what we learn in a fun and creative way.

What is your Art form/ Performance Style/ Background?

I’m a theatre actor and director and I enjoy using clowning and physical theatre to create characters and to tell stories. I’ve worked predominantly in Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) whether that be running workshops or performing. I’ve been lucky enough to work with children and young adults up and down the country as well as around the world.

What does heritage mean to you?

For me it’s about people, communities and their stories. Whether it be learning more about a story we already know or discovering a lesser known tale, it’s the sharing of stories that brings us closer together as a community.

Your interesting fact or claim to fame?

I was the undefeated champion of the sack race at Primary School (1982-88).
