Curve Young Company presents The Tempest and The Dreaming

Local young performers aged from 12 – 26 years will be taking centre stage at Leicester’s Curve theatre this summer to present two of Shakespeare’s finest stories; The Tempest and Howard Goodall’s enchanting musical The Dreaming, a magical retelling of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Directed by Curve Associate Director Tim FordThe Tempest and The Dreaming are presented by Curve Young Company and follow the hugely popular production of Game Face last June.

Curve Young Company offers aspiring young people in Leicester and Leicestershire the opportunity to develop their talent and skills in diverse areas of the performing arts including acting, musical theatre, dance and physical theatre.

Tim Ford, Curve’s Associate Director for Participation and Learning commented:

“I’m incredibly proud of both The Dreaming and The Tempest companies for their commitment to these two challenging, yet beautiful renderings of Shakespeare’s most famous plays. At Curve, we’re committed to developing talent at all ages and Curve Young Company allows young performers to select their discipline and work together as a company to create an engaging piece of theatre, supported by the professional team at the theatre.”

Backstage, Curve Young Technicians will also have the opportunity to work on alongside the theatre’s professional crew to support the stage, lighting and sound components of the two productions.

Students from Guthlaxton College will also supporting Curve Young Company’s production of The Dreaming forming an six-piece orchestra for the musical.

Prospero is banished with his daughter to a remote island. Twelve years later, and intent on revenge, he raises a magical tempest that shipwrecks his enemies on his shores. What begins as a search for retribution develops into a journey of acceptance and compassion in Shakespeare’s final play.

Following the success of Curve’s recent co-production of The Hired Man, Curve Young Company bring to life another Howard Goodall musical in the Studio. Commissioned and first performed by The National Youth Music Theatre, The Dreaming combines songs and comedy in a musical version of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, composed Howard Goodall and lyricist Charles Hart (Phantom of the Opera).
