Carnival Tales: Dance, Drama and Discovery with Joanne Alexander

Facilitated by local artist Joanne Alexander, join JayOneMas for an interactive family workshop celebrating the rich traditions of African and Caribbean carnival culture. Through storytelling, drama, dance and movement, families will go on a creative journey exploring the origins of carnival and the vibrant traditions that continue to inspire communities today.

Participants will discover the meaning behind carnival costumes, colours, and mas, learn simple carnival dance movements, and take part in creative activities inspired by carnival traditions. Together, families will create their own mini mass band before coming together for a joyful carnival procession.

The final workshop of the day will conclude with a vibrant carnival procession on the Curve foyer stage, bringing participants together to celebrate carnival culture.
