Thu 20 Nov 2014

13 local children from across Leicester and Leicestershire have been cast to play the Von Trapp family children in Curve’s upcoming Christmas production of The Sound of Music opening on 28 November – 17 January.

Two teams of children are playing the iconic roles of Friedrich, Louisa, Kurt, Brigitta, Marta and Gretl Von Trapp performing alongside Michael French (Captain Von Trapp), Laura Pitt Pulford (Maria) and Emma Harrold (Liesl).

Paul Kerryson, Curve’s Artistic Director commented:

We’re now into the third week of rehearsals and our brilliant Von Trapp children are already stealing the show. It’s thrilling for us to be able to offer this opportunity for aspiring young performers to appear in our Christmas musical alongside our professional company.”

Hannah Willars (aged 15) attends St Paul R.C. Comprehensive and is sharing the role of Louisa said:

“Being in The Sound of Music is a special experience.  Having the opportunity to work with such an amazing group of professional actors is a dream come true.  I’m having so much fun, I can’t wait for the show to start and I know that I won’t want it to finish”.

Joel Fossard (aged 12) who goes to Leysland High School in Leicester who shares the role of Kurt said:

“I’m loving every rehearsal. It’s a chance to make new friends and work with people, both amateur and professional, with the same interests as me. The Sound Of Music has such great songs and lyrics and I love playing the part of the mischievous Kurt.”

Amelia Harding (aged 8) attends Avenue Primary School and shares the role of Gretl added:

“It is so much fun because we’re all really good friends. My favourite dance is the Lonely Goat Herd because I get to jump on the bed. I love the costumes, they are amazing.”

Over the past five years Curve’s Christmas musicals have become a must-see, receiving widespread critical acclaim and attracting audiences from all over the UK.
