Creatives Commentary: Emma Williams on her White Christmas dressing room

Mon 13 Jul 2020

Having played Paula Pokrifki in our Made at Curve production of An Officer and a Gentleman – the Musical, Emma Williams returned to Curve in 2018 as Betty Haynes in our festive production of White Christmas. In this commentary, she talks about creating a ‘home from home’ in her dressing room.

“This photograph was taken backstage during the technical rehearsals for White Christmas in November 2018. Dressing rooms become a home from home on any production but especially on a Christmas show due to the heavy schedule, and long technical days can run up to thirteen hours so the comfy clothing is a must (festiveness is optional!). I think this was taken a few days before Monique Young (Judy) and I decorated the room, but amongst all my show detritus you can see the few necessities I always have – photos of my husband, chewing gum, fruit, coffee (both my keep cup and a take away from the brilliant Curve Green Room cafe) and my iPad. I also love the fact that Curve decorate their dressing rooms with posters from previous shows – just above my head is the poster for An Officer and A Gentleman, the other show I’ve done for Curve!”
