Synopsis
The Wild Man of the West Indies (Il furioso all’isola di San Domingo) is an extraordinary opera which vanished after initial success. A love story of Shakespearean depth, it’s about a man driven mad by his wife’s infidelity, who maroons himself on a Caribbean island.
Madness and jealously are just two of the cocktail of emotions in Donizetti‘s long lost masterpiece, which has comic elements, an uplifting finale and a powerful anti-slavery message.
A rare feast for lovers of bel canto (beautiful singing) and a real adventure for lovers of theatre.
This opera is sang in Italian, with English surtitles.
