Spend an evening with some of the UK’s freshest theatrical voices – featuring dynamic new writing from Tamasha’s 2018-19 Tamasha Playwrights group.  

A writer-led collective founded in 2014, Tamasha Playwrights is formed of emerging playwrights from a culturally diverse range of backgrounds. After a year of support and training led by Artistic Director Fin Kennedy, the playwrights have developed new scripts that’ll be performed script-in-hand by professional actors.

Confirmed directors:

Omar Khan will be directing Sitas Ashes Sitas Isha, The Walk

Omar is an associate artist at The Birmingham REP, currently writing/directing ‘Ritual’, an immersive piece that explores the psychedelic experience.

 

Beth Kapila will be directing Brownballed, The European Hare, Unit

Beth is a director and dramaturg who works with writers to develop new work and she is a co-founder of Birmingham based new writing company ‘Ripped Theatre’ who support writers.

Beth trained on the StoneCrabs Young Directors Scheme 2016 and the Birmingham REP Foundry Scheme 2018. Beth is currently assistant director for the Birmingham REP and Middle Child’s production and tour of ‘Rebel Music’.

Director credits include: Dead Endings by Claire Thill (Birmingham REP), TalentLab festival of new writing (Theatre de la Ville, Luxembourg), Wasted by Kate Tempest (Albany Theatre), Unwrapped (URock Youth Theatre Company) and associate director for ‘The Internet was made for Adults (VAULTS Festival).

Currently in development: ‘Ladies Who’ in collaboration with Laura Ryder and supported by In Good Company, ‘What Big Teeth’ by Natasha Collie, researching a piece about the founding of the South Asian Marriage Counselling Service supported by the Michael Grandage Company.

 

The Walk by Erinn Dhesi

Brownballed by Adam Kotwal 

A Teenage British Asian Footballer, on the verge of greatness suddenly questions the moral ambiguity of the fame, wealth and glory that lie ahead.

Sitas Ashes Sitas Isha by Santoshi Mann 

Dr Sharma believes the only way to treat Pavans depression is through modern medicine, but his son feels the solution he’s been seeking, are rooted in the memories of his deceased mother.  Will her ashes be scattered with honesty or denial?  Will Dr Sharma and Pavan ever bond again?
