New Work Festival Dance Showcase featuring ROOTS

Join us for an evening celebrating emerging Dance talent in the region.

Featuring performances from members of leading dance company Aakash Odedra’s ROOTS program.

Aakash Odedra Company, a leading dance company known globally for its innovative and boundary-pushing productions, are proud to showcase ROOTS, a five-weekend dance intensive programme created for the 2023-2024 season.  Through ROOTS, Aakash Odedra Company is dedicated to helping dancers discover their own unique routes, empowering them to pursue their passion and make a lasting impact on the dance world.

This pre and early professional intensive program was designed for both the broader dance community and a select cohort of 5 dancers, looking to expand their skills and knowledge in the world of dance. Aakash Odedra Company sponsored the cohort dancers, underscoring their dedication to nurturing the next generation of dancers & cultural leaders to foster a vibrant and thriving dance ecosystem. The programme took place between September 2023 and February 2024 and featured an exceptional lineup of inimitable choreographers and dance companies . Participants have had the unique opportunity to learn from and work with some of the most renowned and influential figures in dance today, including Russell Maliphant, Aakash Odedra Company, Hofesh Shechter Company, Alleyne Dance and Akram Khan Company.

Over the course of the five weekends, participants received in-depth training in a variety of styles and techniques, including contemporary dance, classical Indian dance, and more. The ROOTS workshops comprised of exploring different choreographic methodologies and performative approaches through physical training, improvisational exercises, repertoire and creative sessions.
