New Plays from India: The Pereira's Bakery at 76 Chapel Road

This delightfully comic and heartbreakingly tragic story follows the residents of the close-knit Catholic community of Bandra, Mumbai as they fight to preserve their heritage in a world that is changing too quickly around them.

Curve Theatre present the world premiere stagings of two extraordinary new plays written by a pair of rising stars within India’s ever-growing theatre community.  Originally developed by the award-winning Royal Court Theatre in collaboration with Rage Productions, Mumbai and the British Council, the plays offer a stunning, surprising perspective on Indian life today.

Directed by Curve’s Associate Director Suba Das, these productions connect Leicester’s emerging talent with some of the most exciting voices in the world today.

Ayeesha Menon is originally from Mumbai but has recently moved to the UK. She has won Sony Radio Awards for best drama for her adaptations of Q & A and The Cairo Trilogy. Her other adaptations for Radio 4 include The Mumbai ChuzzlewitsMy Name Is Red and Six Suspects. Her original feature film The White Elephant premiered in the UK at the London Indian Film Festival in 2011.
