Music of India: Kaushiki Chakraborty

After 15 years, Kaushiki Chakraborty returns to Leicester. With her, she brings the rejuvenation of a legacy continued by the greatest Indian classical musicians of khayal (imagination).  

Allow the meandering lilts, peaks and valleys of her voice to evoke a primal and elemental response within your soul. The virtuosic timber of her voice carries raga phrases through to completion – leaving the audience in awe and stunned at the sheer versatility and pied beauty of her craft. It’s music reminiscent of Pandit Ravi Shankar’s forays deep into the heart of the artform, music that transports, uplifts, inspires and stirs deep emotions we sometimes fail to recognise.

She is accompanied by maestro tabla player Yashwant Vaishnav and both masters Murad Ali on the sarangi and Tanmay Deochake on the harmonium. Together, the quartet adorns raga phrases with the sumptuousness, simple decadence and soul-stirring ethos that is, firmly and irrevocably, Indian classical music.
