Curve WritersLab Presents is a unique opportunity to preview a selection of brand new plays in development at Curve by extraordinary new writing talent from the region.

Presented by a professional company, this evening offers a full-length presentation of The Killer Question, a hilarious new black comedy by Midlands-based writer David Payne (Storyline Editor and Producer for EastEnders and The Archers, and winner of a British Soap Award in 2015 and 2016), plus work-in-progress readings by other WritersLab participants.

ABOUT DAVID PAYNE

Following a win on the ITV1 sketch show, Shoot The Writers at the age of twenty, David went on to have his short pieces staged by Off The Fence, Full Circle, Fractured Lines and The Best of The Platform at The Bread and Roses Theatre. After graduating from the Birmingham Rep Write Away scheme he became core writer for Laughlines Comedy Entertainment, writing parody versions of classic sitcoms including Blackadder, Only Fools and Horses and ‘Allo ‘Allo! He won The Birmingham Three Week Window Festival and was a finalist in the Menagerie One Page Play Competition before landing storylining opportunities with Hollyoaks online and EastEnders (winning Best Storyline at The British Soap Awards, 2015 and 2016). He wrote for the CBBC comedy Class Dismissed, his first short film Flashed is in production with Bootleg and he is a finalist in the Playwrite Festival, Hebden Bridge this July. David has also run writing and storylining workshops at The University of Wolverhampton, gained a place as Lead Writer for Writing West Midands and is on the Writing For TV and Film panel at the National Writers Conference in Birmingham. He is represented by Jean Kitson of Kitson Press Associates and is currently Producer on BBC Radio 4’s The Archers.
