FULL LINE-UP ANNOUNCED FOR CURVE ON THE SQUARE - A WEEKEND OF FREE LIVE ENTERTAINMENT FOR ALL

Curve theatre has revealed the full line-up of local performers set to join Curve on the Square, a free weekend of top-class entertainment for everyone to enjoy from Friday 8 to Sunday 10 August.

Sponsored by De Montfort University (DMU), Curve on the Square will take place on Orton Square in the city’s Cultural Quarter. All performances and activities as part of the festival will be free, with no need to book.

Opening the event at 6pm on Friday 8 August will be dance group Moving Together, followed by dancing duo the Mistry Sisters. Hosted by DJ The Old Boy, the evening continues with an acoustic guitar performance from Suzie Langton Music, before Drag King Loki Lavander takes to the stage at 7:15pm. The night will close 8pm to 9pm with host The Old Boy delivering an eclectic DJ mix of soul, jazz, rare groove, funk, house, garage and hip hop.

On Saturday 9 August, hosted by Shreya Vadnerkar, the entertainment kicks off from 11am with musical theatre performances from Euan Lukjanenko, followed by Alex Budding, leading into an acoustic performance from Skyla Kari. CQ Earlies will run an interactive dance workshop for children from 12pm, and families will be able to enjoy Mixit! Arts Academy’s show MIXIT! FINDS A NATIONAL TREASURE from 12:30pm. Curve Associate Company Nupur Arts will showcase South Indian classical dance from 1:30pm, followed by pop tunes from vocalist Jessica Mawby. Lorrine Douglas and Angela O’Neill then host an afternoon of musical theatre and dance performances, including appearances by Molly Power, Aimee Coe, and Angel Dance. From 3:30pm, Ioana Vasile presents a multi-instrumental acoustic session before Kathak dance performances from The Aamad Ensemble.

Riverside Collective will continue the jam-packed Saturday line-up with their multi-genre song covers, leading into musical performances between 5pm and 9pm from The IDOLS, Honest Dave, Juddah James, LVT, LADY AFFIRMATION, Mitchel Casamir, Elliott Wilson, with the evening’s host Joshua Taylor-Williams bringing the day to a close.

Sunday 10 August will begin at 11am with a creative Little Curve workshop for young children, families and carers, delivered by Curve practitioner Tamika Gore, exploring drama, movement, music and storytelling. Continuing the fun for kids and adults alike, the Little Disco from host and Curve practitioner Jack Stark will encourage everyone to get up and dance, followed by Jishnu Soni, who will showcase the storytelling artform of Dastangoi. From 1pm Curve Community Company members will perform a drama piece in celebration of Leicestershire heroes, before the Sonis School of Garba Dance get audience members moving with interactive Garba. Host Gregory Smith will introduce ID Dance who will showcase their movement skills, leading into musical performances from Yasmina Berraoui and Kainé Mass Choir. Spoken word artists Andréa McDowall and Vigspoetry will round out the afternoon with poetry, before the weekend concludes with Junkyard Cats Jazz Band from 4:15pm.

Performances across the weekend will be British Sign Language (BSL) Interpreted by a cohort of interpreters, including Donna Ruane and Max Marchewicz on behalf of Theatresign, and Hyacinth Powell and Jacqui Lewis.

Curve will also operate an outdoor bar during the weekend, serving a range of drinks and snacks.
