DO YOU ‘CONSIDER YOURSELF’ TO BE THE NEXT OLIVER OR ARTFUL DODGER?

Leicester’s Curve theatre has announced they are holding auditions for the junior cast of their new production of Lionel Bart’s masterpiece Oliver!, directed by Paul Kerryson. Opening on 2 December 2015, with previews from 27 November, the production will run until the 16th January 2016.

Curve’s Chief Executive Fiona Allan said:
Oliver! continues Curve’s tradition for major revivals of classic family musicals over the festive season. The standard of those who audition at Curve is always incredibly high so we’re excited to see what new talents our search uncovers in Leicestershire.”

Curve is seeking boys aged between 7 and 13 with unbroken voicesto play the lead roles of Oliver and the Artful Dodger along with other members of Fagin’s gang and the workhouse boys. Boys auditioning would also need to be under 5’2 in height.

Director Paul Kerryson said:
Oliver! is such a brilliant musical to watch and to perform in. There is an abundance of young talent in Leicester and Leicestershire and this spectacular new production offers the opportunity of auditioning for familiar roles in Fagin’s gang, the workhouse boys, the Artful Dodger and of course, Oliver himself. Boys should be from all nationalities, but must be able to sing and dance really well, plus be fearless in projecting their acting abilities. Many famous actors have started their acting careers in Oliver! So if you think you have got what it takes, apply now!”

Three teams of children are required to join the cast of this fantastic, family show. Junior cast members will need to be available for rehearsals, which will take place on weekends and weeknights (as well as in the autumn half term break at Curve). Each team of children will be scheduled to perform between 2-3 times a week during the show’s run.

Based on the novel Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens, Lionel Bart’s award-winning musical opened in the West End in 1960, ahead of its Broadway première in 1963 where it won the Tony Award for Best Original Score. It has since been adapted for the screen winning six Academy Awards, and has enjoyed major revivals in both the UK and the US, with the last London revival breaking box office records for the largest advance sales in history.

Joining Paul on the creative team will be Choreographer Andrew Wright, Ben Atkinson as Musical Director, Matthew Kinley as Set Designer, Costume Designer takis and Bruno Poet as Lighting Designer.
