CHICAGO NOMINATED FOR PRESTIGIOUS UK THEATRE AWARD

Fri 26 Sep 2014

Curve’s critically acclaimed Christmas production of Chicago has been nominated in the 2014 UK Theatre Awards for Best Musical Production.

Directed by Curve’s Artistic Director, Paul Kerryson, Chicago was Curve’s most successful musical to date and the centrepiece of the theatre’s 5th birthday celebrations. The production, starring Emmerdale’s Verity Rushworth, Gemma Sutton and David Leonard received five-star reviews and was described as “one of the stand-out shows of the year” in the Daily Telegraph.

Leicester’s Curve theatre is also in the running for the My Theatre Matters Most Welcoming Theatre Award in association with Smooth Radio, which is voted for by the public.

Online voting is now open via the Smooth Radio website www.smoothradio.com and closes on Monday 29 September.

Both awards will be presented at a 2014 UK Theatre Awards ceremony on Sunday 19 October at London’s historic Guildhall.

Presented by UK Theatre, the annual UK Theatre Awards are the only nationwide awards to honour creative excellence and the outstanding achievement seen on and off stage throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Fiona Allan, Curve’s Chief Executive commented:

“We’re thrilled Chicago has been shortlisted in these awards; it is testament to Paul Kerryson’s exceptional vision as director and the phenomenally talented creative team and cast he assembled for this spectacular production. Chicago was hugely successful for Curve and for Leicester and this recognition continues to build our national profile for producing musical theatre.

As a venue, we’re also excited to be in the running for the UK’s Most Welcoming Theatre Award which recognises the dedication of our front of house teams whose hard work ensures all visitors to our unique building have an exceptional experience.”
