Casting has been announced for the return of multi-award-winning new musical Ride, the extraordinary story of the first woman to cycle around the world, which opens at Leicester’s Curve theatre this summer from Friday 7 to Saturday 15 July.
Produced by DEM Productions, in association with Curve, Liv Andrusier returns to the saddle straight from her win at the OffWestEnd Awards for her “barnstorming performance” (The Stage) as Annie Londonderry. Andruisier will be joined by Katy Ellis (The Scarecrows’ Wedding, Leicester Square Theatre and UK tour) as Martha Smith and Fallon Mondlane (The Lion King, UK tour) as the alternate for both roles.
With book, music and lyrics by Freya Catrin Smith and Jack Williams, and directed by Sarah Meadows, Ride is one of the most critically acclaimed new musicals of recent years. The production was nominated for ‘Best Off West End Production’ at the WhatsOnStage Awards 2023, a finalist in five Office Award 2023 categories ( ‘Best Musical Production’, ‘Best Lead Performance in a Musical’ (Winner), ‘Best Supporting Performance in a Musical’ (Winner), ‘Best Director (Musicals)’, ‘Best Musical Direction’), nominated in four BroadwayWorldUK Award categories, nominated for ‘Best Musical Theatre Book Writing’ in the 2022 Writers Guild Awards, winner of VAULT Festival Show of the Week and winner of the Offie’s OFFCOM Award.
It has also been announced that the original cast album will be launched on 9 June by Broadway Records.
“The Triumphs, Trials, and Tribulations of a Remarkable Woman Named Annie Londonderry and her Incredible Adventures on the Velocipede… Tad long? it’s a working title.”
It’s 1894 and as the bicycle is sweeping change across America, Annie Londonderry has a wager to settle: can a woman cycle across the world? 4 continents in 15 months: easy! Except she’s only been on a bicycle twice. From moneymaking masquerades as a Harvard professor to hunting tigers with German royalty, Annie spins the media into a frenzy with tales of her thrilling escapades. But with time running out and press coverage spiralling, she soon discovers that no matter how many miles she rides, the secrets of her past are never far behind.
Hold on to your handlebars and join Annie on the journey of a lifetime in this ‘sublime, pitch perfect’ (WhatsOnStage) new musical that will leave you breathless!
