During these performances, audio describers provide a live, verbal commentary on key visual aspects of the show for audience members who are Blind or partially sighted. The description is presented via a personal headset, and includes an audio introduction to the show before the performance starts.
To reserve a headset, please contact our Box Office team in advance by emailing [email protected], or by calling the team on 0116 242 3595. Headsets will be available for collection from the Box Office prior to the performance.
An accompaniment to audio described performances, Touch Tours are a tactile tour of the stage allowing audience members who are Blind or partially sighted greater access to the performance. Tours usually take place 90 minutes (or earlier) prior to the start of an Audio Described Performance.
To reserve your place on our Touch Tours, please contact our Box Office team in advance by emailing [email protected]uk, or by calling the team on 0116 242 3595.
Our dress rehearsal archive recording of Hanif Kureishi’s My Beautiful Laundrette is now available to watch online with integrated Audio Description for blind and partially sighted audience members.
The recording is supported with an audio introduction, giving details about the play, characters, set and more. To listen to the introduction, please click here.
Both the audio description and introduction are kindly provided by Nadine Beasley and Kate Taylor-Davies of Talking Sense Audio Description Services, with support from Sound Engineer Gary Giles.
Audience members who would benefit from the support of a companion during their visit may be eligible for a free Essential Carer ticket with each standard ticket booked for a performance.
To access the concession, we recommend joining our Access Register Scheme so that you don’t need to resubmit evidence each time you book. For more details about the register, please see our Access page.
