NT Connections 2017

Connections is the National Theatre’s annual festival of new plays for youth theatres and schools.

Over the last 20 years the National Theatre has published more than 150 plays for young theatre companies to perform all over the UK.

This year Curve Young Company will be producing one of these plays.

Status Update by Tim Etchells.

Directed by John Berkavitch, Curve Youth Theatre Director

We know facts. We know secrets. We have opinions, we have intuition and we have the stage. Status Update is an unflinching and funny catalogue of the things teenagers learn, believe and have sussed out about the world. From the ridiculous to the highly charged, all these truths and half-truths are laid bare before us, without the safety net of character or fiction.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR PERFORMERS AND YOUNG DESIGNERS

Application to perform is open to all current and previous CYC members aged between 12-18 years old.

In order to support our young performers we are also looking for young people aged 16-26 who are interested in photography, film making, sound and set design.

Selected participants will work with Curve’s Youth Theatre Director and will receive mentoring from Curve’s Design and Tech departments developing practical skills and gaining hands on experience of working on a studio production in a professional theatre.

This project will mirror the professional process of producing a new play.

“Curve is my favourite place – like a second home and I have so much fun. I have really developed as a performer and I know that I have learnt a lot about theatre and performing which will help me in life.”

— Isaac Hart, CYC Member

“Curve was the first place where I felt like a professional despite my young age. Through CYC team has nurtured my talents, and has really pushed me with challenges to exceed my “limits”. Curve is one of the main reasons why my confidence has grown dramatically since my first project at Curve.”

— Kirsty Mealing, CYC Member
