What is Curve Young Company?
Our Curve Young Company (CYC) is for young people aged 7 – 19 years with a passion for performing arts. Members of CYC meet regularly at Curve to develop their skills, confidence and understanding of the industry alongside professional artists and creative teams. Taking part in CYC, participants also have the opportunity to perform on our stages in CYC productions, special events at Curve and as part of our Made at Curve productions.
Our CYC groups include CYC Kids (7 – 12 years), CYC Act (12 – 19 years), CYC Dance (12 – 19 years) and CYC Musicals (12 – 19 years). CYC is open to all and there are opportunities for every level of experience – as long as you are committed, open to try new things and want to make your voice heard, CYC is for you.
When do classes take place?
The CYC class programme runs alongside school term times, with each group meeting once a week. Scroll down to find more details on class time for this term.
Throughout the year, CYC members are also able to be involved with special events at Curve, holiday projects and workshops.
How can I join?
Applications to join CYC take place yearly. To make sure that CYC is open to all, we ask current members as well as those who are interested in joining to apply for the upcoming terms.
The application process for the 2019 – 2020 CYC terms will open in July and further details will be available on our website.
As we ask all current participants to reapply each year, we do not hold a waiting list for applicants. If you would like to be put on a mailing list so that we can remind you when the application window opens, please contact [email protected] with your name and the groups(s) you are interested in joining.
Prices for CYC range from £75 – £90 per term. For talented young people from low-income families, we are able to offer a number of bursary places each year thanks to sponsorship. These places can be applied for during the application process.
Participants will develop their skills and understanding of all aspects of musical theatre from the historical to the current, realising storytelling through lyrics, text and dance.

Curve Young Dance Company is for young performers who want to develop their contemporary dance technique, choreography and performance skills. This group is by Curve Associate Dance Artist Mel Knott, along with guest teachers and professional dancers. We welcome dancers with experience in any dance styles, or those with performing experience who want to extend their dance skills.
As part of the company you will create different projects throughout the year, devising your own pieces and performing on both traditional stages and in site-specific venues and festivals around the city.

“Curve is my favourite place – like a second home and I have so much fun. I have really developed as a performer and I know that I have learnt a lot about theatre and performing which will help me in life.”
— Isaac Hart, CYC Member
“Curve was the first place where I felt like a professional despite my young age. Through CYC team has nurtured my talents, and has really pushed me with challenges to exceed my “limits”. Curve is one of the main reasons why my confidence has grown dramatically since my first project at Curve.”
— Kirsty Mealing, CYC Member
