Common Tongue

Synopsis

Share:

Common Tongue is a multimedia show combining electronic and classical music, spoken word, dance and digital visuals. The Indian classical artforms of tabla and kathak are remixed and made contemporary, in a series of songs told by lead artists from India and the UK.

The show explores the theme of a common tongue. In an increasingly globalised world, how can people who speak different languages, and come from different cultures, relate to each other? How do older languages, traditions and art forms fare in modern times? How do we cultivate a common language between us, which honours the past but looks forward to the future?

Artforms weave, clash and converse to ask these questions, in a show which will appeal both to those excited by baselines, electronica and hip hop, and a generation raised on the purism and discipline of the Indian classical arts.
