CURVE THEATRE WINS PRESTIGIOUS NATIONAL EVENTS AWARD

Leicester’s Curve theatre, has received a prestigious national Conference and Incentive Travel Award (C&IT) for Local Offer Live, its annual event for young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

The event won the award for the Best Use of a Budget Under £100,000 in the Creative Solutions Category. The awards ceremony took place in London on the 22nd September at the Hilton hotel, Park Lane.

Speaking about the award win, Curve’s Chief Executive Chris Stafford said:

We are thrilled to win this award. At Curve, accessibility is a integral part of our work and we are we are very proud of the Local Offer Live event and our work with Leicester City Council, Leicestershire County Council and NHS England in ensuring children and young people with SEND have access to vital services and projects throughout the city and county.”

Local Offer Live is run in conjunction with Leicester City Council, and supported by Leicestershire County Council and NHS England. Its aim is to transfer the Local Offer online database of disability services into a fun, interactive and inspiring event to help young people with SEND, their parents, carers and families learn more about the services existing to support them.

The event was attended by over 3,000 people and included an exhibition of 114 local, regional and national disability service providers, eight special schools choirs performing in Curve’s 300 seater theatre, nine free performances from top disability dance artists including Mark Brew, Salamander Tandem and Dan Daw, performances in public spaces from community groups such as Bullfrog Arts and ADHD Solutions, and a national conference from People Dancing on ‘Providing Better Arts for Disabled People’.

Joe Dawson, Head of Leicester City Psychology and SEND services said about Local Offer Live:

“We believe that sharing best practice, understanding new and existing services and listening to the views of children, young people and their families is of vital importance for the sector and the community. Curve understood that this was the purpose of Local Offer Live and were completely dedicated to its success.”

The award win follows Curve’s recent shortlisting for The Renee Stepham Award for Best Presentation of Touring Theatre and the Award for Best Show for Children and Young People at the prestigious UK Theatre Awards.
