CURVE GIVES SCHOOLS AND FAMILIES A MAGICAL MATILDA EXPERIENCE

Schools and families from across Leicestershire have enjoyed special Matilda the Musical events at Curve around the theatre’s latest Family Day.

The workshops, sponsored by confectionary brand Poppets, were based on the Royal Shakespeare Company‘s production of Roald Dahl‘s Matilda, which opened its UK and Ireland tour at Curve 15 Mar.

Pupils and teachers from Ravenhurst Primary School and Braunstone Frith Primary School visited the theatre to see the show and take a look at what goes on behind-the-scenes at Curve. Both schools are also taking part in Matilda-inspired sessions delivered by the Learning team at Curve.

“Wow! It was truly wonderful to watch our pupils experience Matilda”, said Mrs Sarah Bryan from Ravenhurst Primary School. “All children, from the ages of 5 to 11, sat in awe and wonder, captivated by the incredible performers and staging. A magical day was had by all.”

Miss Nicola Miller from Ravenhurst Primary School said:

“Inspiring, delightful, heart-warming. Matilda was an emotional journey and our pupils thoroughly enjoyed the ride!”

Commenting on the production, Ellie-May (Year 3) from Braunstone Frith said, “I liked how Matilda remembered all of the words by herself and I liked the acting. The tour of the Curve was amazing!  I liked to see all of the photos of the actors and actresses singing or dressed up in their costumes.”

“I liked it when Matilda’s friend dropped from the roof during the show!  What I liked about the tour is that we got to see the people practising. I liked the nice poppet sweets!” said Nokutenda (Year 3), also from Braunstone Frith Primary School.

Curve’s regular Family Day events include a range of activities around the theatre for all to enjoy alongside the production on stage. Visitors to Curve on Saturday 17 Mar got stuck into craft, movement and writing workshops based on the classic Dahl tale, with live performances and a dress-up space throughout the day.

Commenting on the activities, Andrew Ovens, Head of Marketing from Poppets said:

“Poppets is the timeless British classic that instantly fills you with memories of your childhood, and we are thrilled that we were able to provide unforgettable experiences for young people in Leicester, either watching Matilda the Musical, receiving a workshop or visiting Curve on the wonderful Family Day.”
