SWEENEY TODD
30 JUL - 11 AUG 2013
THEATRE PERFORMANCE
A Curve Community Production. The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. A Musical Thriller.
Music & lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Book by Hugh Wheeler. From an adaptation by Christopher Bond. Originally directed by Harold Prince. Originally produced on Broadway by Richard Barr, Charles Woodward, Robert Fryer, Mary Lea Johnson, Martin Richards in association with Dean & Judy Manos.
Following the sell-out success of previous productions of Oliver! and West Side Story, Curve's professional production team will again join a group of hugely talented local performers to bring to life the legend of Sweeney Todd, the demon barber of Fleet Street.
Sondheim's brooding musical thriller is filled with humour, wit and scary delights. It also boasts a magnificent score. From its first UK performance in London in 1980 to the stunning 2007 screen adaptation by Tim Burton, this tale of obsession and vengeance has enraptured audiences.
Set in Victorian London, the musical depicts Sweeney Todd's murderous quest for justice and retribution aided and abetted by the outrageous ideas of the pie-shop owner, Mrs Lovett. Directed by Paul Kerryson.
This amateur production is presented by arrangement with Josef Weinberger Ltd. on behalf of Music Theatre International of New York. This amateur production will be performed by members of the local community.
