ENGLISH TOURING OPERA
11 - 12 MAR 2013
Così fan tutte – Mon 11 March
Simon Boccanegra – Tue 12 March
In Spring 2013, English Touring Opera presents the first ever operas to be staged at Curve. This feast of opera tells stories through the tradition of bel canto, meaning beautiful singing.
Così fan tutte
One of Mozart’s most famous scores, Così fan tutte is a lively comedy of innocence and experience. In one day fiancés are parted, and new fiancés found – or so it seems. Discovering they are not at all the people they thought they were is strange, exciting, and very embarrassing.
Sung in English
Simon Boccanegra
In Simon Boccanegra, Verdi’s depiction of the shimmering Mediterranean is wonderful. So too are the characters he creates, from Simon, the rough-hewn buccaneer, to his spiteful adversary, his own father-in-law. The story comes from the history of Genoa, for centuries a great maritime republic.
Sung in Italian
