The team at Curve are continually looking for ways to engage children and young people and their teachers in what's on at the theatre - providing a range of exciting things to do - whilst enhancing the cultural and creative offer both at Curve and in local schools and colleges.
The City of Leicester College has been chosen by the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) to play a major role in its highly-regarded national education programme.
Working with both the RSC and Leicester’s Curve Theatre, The City of Leicester College will be the ‘hub’ school in the RSC’s three-year Learning and Performance Network (LPN), which aims to transform children’s first experiences of Shakespeare, and improve the teaching of Shakespeare in schools.
The RSC believes that young people experience Shakespeare best when they follow the RSC’s manifesto, Stand Up For Shakespeare, which calls for children to: do Shakespeare on their feet, see it live, and start it earlier.
In Leicestershire the RSC will work with Curve to give The City of Leicester College and up to seven other schools (known as ‘cluster’ schools) the skills necessary to teach Shakespeare in a more active way, using techniques similar to those used in RSC rehearsal rooms.
Three teachers from The City of Leicester College will take a special postgraduate course with the RSC and The University of Warwick, helping them develop expertise in the teaching of Shakespeare. They will also support teachers in the other local schools.
In the first year of the programme in Spring 2014, the RSC will visit the area with a Shakespeare production specifically created for younger audiences. The hub and cluster schools will not only get to see the production, but will benefit from working with education staff and actors on gaining a deeper understanding of the play.
In 2016 all of the schools, together with artists from the RSC and Curve, will create a children’s Shakespeare performance festival at the Leicester theatre.
Our workshops at Curve are designed to open up the world of theatre - get behind what's on stage, and to reveal the hidden process of a rehearsal room. This unique range of things to do for kids, are linked to our visiting and in-house productions and are run by the creative practitioners at the centre of the work.
The aim of any given workshop is to enable people of all ages to engage more deeply with the artists, subject matter and theatrical processes in our artistic programme.

A great opportunity to meet Directors, Choreographers and other experts to find out more about their work and take part in discussions.
Your opportunity to experience the final dress rehearsal of each Curve production. The decision to go ahead and invite the public in will be taken on the morning of the rehearsal and tickets will go on sale at 12 noon the same day. Tickets are available on a first come, first served basis and can be bought only in person from the Ticket Office at Curve.
Look out for confirmation information on Curve's website, on the morning of the scheduled Public Dress Rehearsal, whether it will take place that evening.
